What is Coltrane?

Coltrane, named after the legendary jazz musician John Coltrane, is an innovative software designed to help musicians and music enthusiasts explore musical concepts interactively.

While still in the early stages of development, Coltrane aims to provide a comprehensive platform for learning and experimenting with music theory, scales, chords, and more.

Who's behind it?

Coltrane is solo developed by Pedro Maciel, a graphic designer, developer and musician. It started off in 2018 as a Ruby Library to help with his own self-taught music studies. The library attracted some spontaneous attention (Hacker News, Ruby Weekly), which motivates expansion into a full-fledged application.

Design Research

It was researched as a final bachelor's project in graphic design. Many concepts and ideas were born from this academic exercise. There are many new things to come, but the project takes time to mature into anything usable since it is done on free time.

Free to use, no ads

The goal of the project is to remain free from ads and from payment. We don't want to impose any financial barriers to access the platform and keep it distraction free, like the good web should be.

If you enjoy the project and have some spare change please support the project. Your contributions will help fund future development and maintenance.
